Electricity bill extremely high

I moved house 3 months ago. Stayed with the same supplier as I liked them and they already supplied my new flat. My electricity bill was about £60 per month for a 2 bed flat. We use the tumble dryer fairly often so this was fair enough. Moved in here and got the first bill after 2 weeks which was about £15. This was based on an estimate. I put my meter reading in online and it's saying my electricity bill is £1150 for the past 2 months. I checked it 2 days in a row to ensure it wasn't a glitch or me putting it in wrong. It was the landlord who gave me the meter reading originally, he read it out while I was there (it's up a ladder) and offered to let me check it. I didn't check it (silly of me, I know). All I can assume is that he's made a mistake with the original reading (I'm certain this was accidental). Will the electricity company be able to backdate and check this in some other way? My new flat is only a one bed so there's no way my bill should be higher and certainly not this much. I know I need to call them but I'm worried about being fobbed off. Can anyone help?

There must have been a final reading for the previous resident?

SuperLoveFuzz · 05/06/2014 17:32

Ah of course, there must have been! I'm sure that will help since we've stayed with the same supplier too. Phew. Thank you!

Do you have storage heaters by any chance?

I work in this industry and there should be a final read.

Ask them for the last actual eye ball read and the date. From there work out when you moved in.
