Has anyone used Hatton Garden metals to sell unwanted gold????

I've decided to get rid of a few pieces of jewelry I really don't, and never will wear.

According to their website, I could expect £960 for my necklace & around £450 for the bracelet.

I'm extremely tempted but feel a bit uneasy sending them in the post. Would anyone know roughly how much it would cost to insure and post them? They weigh 80g in total.

I absolutely would not use any of those postal gold people. I'd take them into a couple of local jewellers and see what they would give you. I think you can get prepaid envelopes from these postal gold people but I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

I used them and money was in my account within 24 hours od them receiving my jewellery. I would send it special delivery (insured) though, just in case Royal Mail lose it.

If you are in London or Birmingham (not sure about other cities) you should go to the jewellery quarter, you get a much better rate. If you go to a shop or dealer you only get what they make less their cut. (they then sell it on to the jewellery quarter)

I have a couple of times and they were great. Good price for the gold and money in account on the day they receive the gold. I sent the parcel registered post too in case RM lost it.

I used them for a ring after I'd been to local places and been quoted a lower amount. Checked other postal places as well. Got slightly more than quoted and money in my account later on in the day they received it.

This is the MSE page about selling gold, online and in person, which might help you to decide what to do, drivin

here

I agree about taking them into a few local jewellers.

They will give you a quote based on the design, not just the value of the stones/precious metals, which could be more, if it's the kind of thing they are able to sell in their shop, or at auction, even.

Maybe the best price will come from the postal people, but it doesn't hurt to be well informed.

I used them on the back of MSE and got a good price quickly. But I was only selling backs of earrings and broken chains and stuff like that. Stuff that I was going to throw out.

I've always used Hatton scrap metal. They give much better prices than my local jewellers and have never ripped me off, I always send recorded and pay insurance.

You can get a jeweller to verify the caret of your item before you send and they will contact you before scrapping if you wasn't the items returned as they haven't offered what you expected.

I used them after getting valuations from local jewellers, their prices were much better. No problems with posting it to them and they paid very quickly. I would recommend them.

Also no problems here and very swift payment. I used them after shopping around quite a bit.

I used a company called Yardna Jewellery, would not bother using anyone else, they are the best, I checked out all of the garden when i went to sell my diamond and gold, I felt intomdated, pressured into selling. I went to Yardna Jewellery in Edgware road, felt at ease no pressure and got a fantastic price for my gold. Seriously good value in comparison

Hatton Garden Metals are very good, pay good prices and are recommended by Moneysaving Expert. They're not like the others who pay rubbish amounts.

OP, the prepay envelope they send you should be for Royal Mail Special Delivery, which will be insured and as secure as you can get. They do deduct a small amount from your payout to pay for this service, which I think is fair enough.

They also have a number of sites around the country where you can hand deliver the items and they forward it to their main sites to be dealt with.
