Is there any point trying to persuade HSBC to revoke overdraft charges?

They have charged me £100 for being overdrawn for 4 days - I didn't realise, and it was because my childminder had paid in a cheque that she'd been sitting on for weeks which I assumed she'd already cashed. My fault for not realising, I guess, but seems a bit shocking of HSBC to keep paying out debits and not let me know there was actually no money in the account to do so (and thus 'allowing' them to levy a fresh charge each day).

I've had the account for 17 years and only ever been overdrawn once before. Is it worth trying to appeal for leniency??!? The thought of paying £100 for absolutely nothing makes me feel a bit sick (and I REALLY can't afford it...)

They have repaid back similar fines for me. But made clear they wouldn't be able to do it again. MIL had just died so lots of bills etc tgat were unexpected.
Give them a ring. They offered immediately.

Oh, thank you - that gives me a bit of hope. Did you just call Customer Services? Not sure which dept to contact...

If it's your first time overdrawn you may get a refund/part refund as a goodwill gesture. These will be noted on your account to make sure you don't try to get another refund in the future...other than that,as you said yourself,it's your fault...sorry.

Did you ask? I asked once about 50 quid of charges. Was really polite and sounded very upset and I got half back. Natwest charge 6 a day for going overdrawn. That's why I moved.
