Just bumping up my earlier thread.
Still really worried about letter i received for unpaid council tax.Got about 3 months behind and came back from hol to a court summonds.Anyone else ever been stupid enough to have this?
Someone on CAG said they will never go back on a payment plan once issued a court thing unless i pay the whole lot at once.
Was hoping to increase the payments and not attent court -i just couldn`t cope with it.
I knoiw its impossible really but just looking for someone to say something to make this whole nightmare less awful

yes, i did years ago. didn't go to court though, rang them and sorted out payment scheme. i was really worried but when i rang them up it seemed less serious than i had thought. i'm sure you can work something out.

we have had this more than once, we ring them up and explain our situation and have been given a payment plan that we need to stick to

Ring up your council and organise something.

If you ignore it, it becomes worse.

The council will probably be happy to accept whatever you offer to pay them. DP and I got behind on ours when DS was born, and I didn;t earn anything for 6 months. We got the court summons, so DP rang and offered them x amount a week, and they accepted, and now we have paid it off.

Yes, we got one a couple of years ago. I thought we had a direct debit, but apparently we paid the previous year by standing order and should have either re-done the standing order or set up a direct debit, but somehow it slipped through the net. We paid ours all at once, which was a bit painful, but they were fine about it ? I'm sure it happens all the time. If you ring them on tuesday, I'm sure you'll be able to sort it out without going to court - I can't imagine they want to go to the expense of going to court, either, especially if you put forward a plan to pay it off.

It's a horrible feeling, getting a summons - made me feel quite sick (and, of course, dh rubbed it in, as it was bound to be my fault)
