A Homebuyer's survey - does the surveyor move things out of the way?

Or is that only on a structural one?

I'm not sure they move much even on a "full structural survey", Tink - but I remember the disclaimer on our housebuyers report that "the house was in places too heavily furnished to make a proper inspection" or words to that effect.

Were you hoping to help surveyor overlook something? (If we ever put our house on the market the piano will have to move 2 feet to the R in front of a damp patch!)

You got it. . I know it's not a cause for concern but, well, these surveyors do like to alarm people.

Glad I'm not buying a house of any of you lot

there are usually differnet types of survey - some are just to ensure that the house is suitable for mortgage purposes and other will check damp/dry wet rot etc. check damp level in wall, damage to rooves, evidence of subsidence etc. if they cant see someting due to furniture of carpets they will say something to that effect so you cannot sue them if you unearth someting after you have bought the house based on the surevy

Surveyors don't move things out of the way or lift carpets. Standard disclaimer. That is why a survey is sometimes not worth the paper it is written on. Good for sellers, not so good for buyers.

The one who came to ours didn't . Had a quick nose in the loft and garage, but not much else. In and out in 35 minutes max !

Like the sound of that.
