We love it. The greek yoghurt is OMG-worthy.

LumionaMoonsplash · 21/04/2014 17:39

Aaah, the over excited squeal of a newbie when they think they've misheard the assistant asking for a third of the value than was expected. Give it a few months and you'll be cursing the big supermarkets for ripping you for so long Grin

lilypie13 · 21/04/2014 17:39

Ohh I didn't pick any up - I will next week Grin

The only thing I struggled with is I follow weight watchers not super strictly but still try to stick to the points and I have not alot of low point stuff , I dare say if I took my calculator and took my time I would find alot more stuff

My only concern is their TV ad campaign, someone's got to pay for that!

missmagnum · 23/04/2014 22:20

We went for the first time this week and we're really impressed, although do managed to spend what we would have saved on useless gadgets. Must go on my own next week.

Anyone have a coffee recommendation? We usually get nescafe gold blend.

Did a big shop at Aldi tonight. Trolley full for £66. Just need some meat from the local market and it will do family of 4 for a week. Not just food, included washing powder and other household stuff.

Envy Can't wait for ours to be built!

I went to Tesco the other evening as I couldn't be bothered to cook properly and thought I could oick something up - a meal deal, fresh pasta, something like that. Well, I came out empty-handed except for milk because I kept looking at the prices and being so shocked. £4 for two packets of tortellini? Not Finest and that was on special offer! I just can't bring myself to pay normal supermarket prices for food that's no better.

dementedma · 25/04/2014 22:12

Just have to say...tonight discovered Aldi sweet chili Thai dip. Oh my word!

ChampionofWitterers · 29/04/2014 01:19

Aldi is bloomin' brilliant, I LOVE it for packed lunch stuff. It's got veggie sandwich fillings to please DH in the form of hummus (69p a tub) and salady bits.
Garlic sausage (37p) or tins of tuna (49p) to satisfy the urges of the carnivorous children.
Then you've got all your fruit, oatcakes and cheese sticks dead cheap in there.
can you tell I go in there too often to know all the prices lol

CogitoErgoSometimes · 29/04/2014 09:21

I don't like Aldi... sorry. Can't find some of the things I normally buy which means I end up having to go to other shops. I bought their 'premium' sausages with high hopes but they were disgusting. Also that whole thing of long queues and having to go to a table to pack your bags gives me horrible 1970's Kwik Save flashbacks.

louby44 · 02/05/2014 18:50

I shop in Aldi.

I used to be a loyal online Tesco shopper - every Wednesday £100 spend...but now my circumstances have changed and Aldi is my supermarket of choice.

I like it. I spend about £30-£40 for 3 of us (1 adult and 2 hungry boys). I would spend £60 in Tesco. I still do a top up shop at Tesco but Aldi is great!!

EyelinerQueen · 02/05/2014 18:53

I'm with Cog.

It's a kip that sells limited and inferior produce.

You lot are welcome to it Grin .

missw88 · 12/05/2014 13:23

I'm a recent convert. Worked out how much money I had squandered in Tesco's recently by doing a rough calculation of my Clubcard points over the years, and felt physically sick. A new Aldi opened up and I thought I'd give it a go.. My most expensive shop so far has been £35, and that was to feed myself & partner for a week, plus staples like sauces, a couple of bottles of wine, some garden stuff etc- couldn't believe it. I find their veg lasts ages too. Only drawback is that they don't have as much choice as other bigger shops, but I'm happy to get over that with the money I'm saving!

noddyholder · 12/05/2014 16:03

Went there this morning its 2 mins from me. Bought some sandwich stuff chicken/feta cheese hummus and salad milk, ice cream, yoghurts and bread from bakery bit £8

BackforGood · 12/05/2014 16:13

Agree with the 'sh' - I think we should start a campaign to now start keeping it a secret. Ours is much busier now than it ever used to be.

Cogito - the speed of the pack / go through the till is as much of a bonus of shopping there as the £££ savings. You just have to get used to it, and not go in expecting it to be like all the other supermarkets. If I ever end up in another supermarket now, I end up twitching at how long it takes to get through the tills.

mrsbucketxx · 12/05/2014 16:18

The normal sausage especially the irish ones are fab,

I only shop there and have done for years, only a few bits and bobs elsewhere,

You stay in waitrose and ill stick to aldi thanks.

mrsbucketxx · 12/05/2014 16:18

Me too back for, tesco takes forever

Whattheduck · 12/05/2014 20:49

I shop at aldi now too and also get a few bits from lidl.
Last week i spent just under £30 for 2 adults and i dc and another £10 in lidl.
Before i'd easily spend £75/80 in asda or tesco.
I do go to asda once a fortnight for a couple of bits that my dd likes but just get what i need and thats it so probably spend £10 tops.
I find the fruit, veg and salad lasts alot longer than asda's or tesco's and is half the price.
Tbh i've never bought anything that we've not liked

Notmadeofrib · 12/05/2014 21:36

Someone I know sells fruit to aldi and it's the same as M&S take - I know this sounds like a tall tale. Aldi subsidise some of their fruit to ensure top quality and the lowest prices. There is war in the supply chain.

I'm not sure when this policy started but Aldi are buying up the UK business (they have to buy at a higher price than they sell) and we are the ones benefiting. They can't sustain this forever, but for now it is top quality at rock bottom prices and for me the checkout challenge is worth every penny saved.

MissWing · 19/05/2014 09:48

i think the same is true of their ready meals (same product as waitrose/m&s).

Also their wine wins awards. what's not to like? My husband loves the little suprise section in the middle- that's the bit where you have to show restraint!
