Our independent financial advisor, who we have consulted over the last 25 years, is setting up on his own while at the same time is former company has asked if we want to stay with them.

He has given us sound advice when we have asked for it - eg mortgages and savings - but hasn't contacted us to review matters or make suggestions.

Should we expect that? We now have dc going to uni and we need to assess our pensions too, so could do with more advice, but we are wondering if a new advisor might be a better idea.

Any thoughts? Thanks

Mine doesn't but I'm quite happy with that as I'd regard too many follow-up calls as pushy.

If you've been paying any trail commission, then yes he should have kept in contact. If not, then he was not under any obligation. If you have pensions then I'm surprised that he didn't feel it necessary to offer an annual review.

Yes, annual pension review and regular updates.

Check about his professional indemnity insurance as it is very hard for one men bands to get it now, hence why many firms are merging.
