Problems with neighbours and which dept etc to get in touch with

I have changed my name, but obviously dont mind if people on here know who I am. I live next door to a multi occupancy house, privately owned and run by a letting agent. Letting agent isnt at all helpful and landlord is a complete obnoxious twat (for want of a better word!). There have been a couple living in the top flat since we moved in, 2 years ago, who are known drug dealers (they are heroin addicts themselves) they havent proved to be much of a problem in all honesty except for a bit of dealing, but it was all done very discretely. About 6 months ago another couple moved into one of the other flats, who were friends with the drug dealing couple. This new couple are an absolute nightmare. They are dealing at all hours. People stop outside the house pip their horns, they come out deal. They shout at one another outside. They shout to be let in the property. The girl of the new couple is also on the game. They are abusive to me and my husband in front of the kids and are paranoid that we have threatened them etc. They are on the nick constantly and I mean all the time. There is rubbish EVERYWHERE and the latest nightmare is human excrement in the rear alleyway to the house.

Yesterday I phoned up environmental health who in all honesty were not very useful. Police do bugger all and I am completely wound up about the situation. The one lad, of new couple is a complete lose cannon and to be honest I am frightened he is going to become violent. He has already threatened my husband (my husband is a BIG bloke) and luckily my husband managed to turn a bling eye to it.......

We also have a couple (well 2 couples actually) in the basement flat who are sleeping in shifts!!!

What I need to know is, has anyone else been in the same situation and managed to get their neighbours to either behave or get evicted?

and what channels can I go through to find a solution?

This might help

Have you tried the housing dept at your council?

TroubleNextDoor · 17/08/2006 09:11

Is your house yours / morgaged? If so be careful of complaining in writing if yu are thinking of moving in the next few years!

I would try making a few calls to CrimeStoppers about the dealing / prostitution - and give then the name of the agenst and landlords, implying that they are knowingly condoning this behaviour.

Your local police might have a specific team for prostitution and/or drugs - call your regional police hq and ask - they will often be more responsive than the general overstretched police on the beat

Councils seem to take noise seriously. Keep a log of noise nuisance and complain to the department that deals with niose.

Are there other neighbours who would join you in a complaint or other action? You could talk to your local councillor - find out where they hold their 'surgeries' and go and talk to them.

TheBlonde, How would the housing department be able to help? and what would I say?

TroubleNextDoor, yes our house is mortgaged and so is next door (I imagine, he bought it 6 months after we moved in) Other neighbours are peed off with the situation also. The house adjoining the other side of the problem property are trying to sell and are reluctant to get involved and suprise suprise he is a policeman. The MP is aware of the situation but hasnt given any advice.

I rang environmental health yesterday about the noise and they said it was anti social and gave me the anti social number to ring. I just feel like I am being passed from department to department to be quite honest, whilst the situation gets worse and worse

Diff councils are structured in diff ways

If you google your council name plus gov problem neighbours you should find the correct dept

Could you video them dealing and then take that to the police?

IMarriedFatherTed · 17/08/2006 11:13

kimi, I could but I am a bit worried about the repurcusions on myself. Do you know whether that can be done anonymously?

Well crimestoppers might be able to help and keep your identitiy secreat.

TroubleNextDoor · 18/08/2006 12:29

You can call CrimeStoppers completely anonymously. They don't ask any details about you, and they do pass things on to the police.
Gather as much fact to give them e.g which room in the house the dealers are in, any car numbers you see stopping outside and pipping their horns, descriptions of the people involved.

CrimeStoppers sorted out a very similiar problem of mine.

TroubleNextDoor · 18/08/2006 12:29

CrimeStoppers number will be in your phone book.

I know that the police wanted to set up a video at the house of a friend of ours, who could see drug dealing constantly out of her kitchen window. Maybe they would do something similar for you.
