DP earns considerably more than me. We have lived together for 2 years and up until recently we have split everything 50/50 down the middle. Neither of us really spend a lot on non-essential things so I haven't struggled as such.

We have decided to spend a year or two saving for a deposit on a house, a wedding and for when I'm on mat leave in the future. DP already has about £10k from an inheritance. I am paying all of my wages into a savings account (about £700 per month) and DP is paying in £1200 into a joint account for all bills, food, essential items, things for DS etc. He has about £670 left in his own account per month but uses this towards family meals, trips out and treats for us as well. I am a waitress so whatever tips I make I can keep to spend on clothes, make up, meeting up with friends etc, luxuries basically. DS (7) doesn't need any new clothes or shoes at the moment but when he does DP says we will agree on a budget and I can get what I like within that budget. This worked well at Christmas when we agreed to spend £200 on DS but as I have more time I was the one who actually decided what to spend it on.

If you're happy with it then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks - are you happy?
