Basically we are totally skint I have been a sahm for 3 years.
Every moth about a week after payday the money is all gone. We dont have any loans or finance or anything like that, just the mortgage, council tax bills etc there is nothing left! So we have decided i should get a job, i have just been offered a part time job which is a great job but when i rang the tax credits about childcare I would get only an extra £4.60 to cover child costs for 2 children, i get £37 weekly already but that generally go's or food or bills.
I would earn £120 before tax and my chilcare costs would be around £70
Basically if i go back to work i would have to spend over half of my wages on childcare costs as i have no body to care for my children.
this doesnt seem fair to me.

qouls you be working over 16 hours a week? You would need to be to be getting WTC.

but you are still better off ? Would your elder child qualify for an LEA subsidised nursery place ?

sqwerty · 02/08/2006 10:57

yes it is 22 hours, how many do you need to do to claim working tax credit?
My elder child will have a free place at nursey but that is only 2 and half hours so would need to go the the adjoined play group for the other 2 hours.
Yes i would be better off still but working 5 morning a week having to rush and get my kids dropped oof and picked up all for £40 a week.

perhaps an evening job til the kids are a bit older?
or go for it because you want to be out of the house more/starting up a career/getting more experience that will lead somewhere later on - is that more motivating than £40?
I know what you mean. I've more or less given up on working right now til the kids start at school.
