Tax Return

Dh has made a mistake on his tax return, submitted it and paid the underpayment electronically today. He could have offset some of his tax but failed to do so essentially. Is it too late to amend it given he s already paid?

Shouldn't think so. You can submit an amendment up to a year later. The online assessment thingie recalculates what you owe, and I guess that they will sort it out then. It's certainly worth a go.

As a matter of interest did he submit today and pay today, or was there a timelapse? I submitted today, have to make a smallish payment, but the online payment thingie won't let me pay. Just wondering if I have to wait a wee while for the assessment to arrive and be accepted . . .

Watching with interest as DH did the same thing. Submitted self assessment online and paid tax due last week. Found that he could have offset a large amount of charitable donations so looked on HMRC website and it said go to the 'at a glance' page and click on the facility to amend your self assessment form. When we looked we couldn't find this facility on the at a glance page.

The website says you can amend the 2012/13 form up to 31st January 2015.

Anybody successfully amended their form?

You will get the overpayment of tax back once the amendments have been processed. I can't help you with how that is done online as we submit via 3rd party software but you can write to HMRC with the amendments to be made.
