Positive ways to improve credit rating

Hi
I've had a look through old posts on this but can't really find the answer so hoping someone can help.
I currently live with my dh in our mortgaged house. The mortgage is in his name only as when we bought it, 3 years ago, my credit rating was dire. I got into some serious debt when younger and it was a mess. I was lucky enough not to get ccjs etc though. Fast forward 6 years and all my bad stuff is gone from my credit rating, hurrah! We manage our money carefully and I have no further bad things going on. We would like to move in circa 3 years and at that point I would like us to be able to get a joint mortgage. Therefore I need to improve my credit rating. We have debts as a couple but they are all in my husbands name. We have a joint account with an unused overdraft. I dont have a personal account. I have a high interest credit card which I spend approx £100 a month on then pay off in full each month, as I read on moneysavingexpert that this would help. I am on the electoral roll and he named account holder on most of our bills. I have nothing else open in my name eg credit cards etc
Is the anything else I can do to ensure I look more mortgageable in a few years? I don't look very tempting right now to a bank as have no evidence of anything credit wise except the card ive mentioned.
thanks in advance, would really appreciate some advice :)

have you tried experian? that's quite interesting and you can do a free trial

Neiffer · 24/01/2014 19:41

Yes I've looked at my credit file through experian, do they tell you ways to improve it?

There are 3 main agencies in the UK, Experian, Equifax and CallCredit I think. Depending on who you apply for credit with going forward will determine which agency is used.

I opened an ac with Check My File, it lets you check your rating with all 3. It's free but remember to cancel the subscription before first payment is due to come off.

I re subscribe every 4-6 months just to keep an eye on things.

Check all your address information is correct, voters role etc, as a start.

You said you bad stuff has fallen off now, depending when that was though, there might only be 3-4 months of good stuff for agencies to take into ac. So long as you keep on top of it, your good stuff will build and build, as will your rating.

Good luck!

Another poster mentioned Noodle for ratings too, but haven't checked that out myself to date...

Sorry, it's Noddle...
