Those tiny motorbikes - are they legal?

...because a teenage lad on our road keeps going up and down and around the nearby streets on one and DH thinks they are for private land only. He doesn't wear a helmet of course, the kid. A friend's neighbour lost her 10yo son to a head injury while mucking about on one of these. I don't know how easy to control they are but they are really really tiny!

think cod knows about these

saw the bloke who runs the lock having a word with a lad who was using one around here so I imagine there is some law/rule about them

zippitippitoes · 26/07/2006 14:43

They must be taxed and insured mot etc

Rider must have a driving licence

They are designated road vehicles so all the same law applies

In most areas they are confiscated and crushed if the above is breached..phone the local police station

i think private land only too - thats what the mini electric scooter we were thinking of getting DD1 said which i why we didn't buy it, she would have no where to ride it, our garden is too small and the park isn't private land

Private land only.

Sure they should be taxed, insured etc too (think I read this in the news?)

Racers · 26/07/2006 14:48

ok thanks. I'm pretty tempted to call police, especially in light of friend's neighbour dying. I don't think this lad would realise how vunerable he is on one of those. (plus, yes, it is quite annoying, but that isnt' the main point)

Private land with permission.

I have just reported one for constantly going up and down on the stretch of land behind our house. It is such a problem in the area that there is a dedicated phone line to call and an envorcement squad who come out and take the bikes.

There was an article on the news today about these. I missed the start but I think the gist was, even if you're a licensed driver they are illegal on the public highway.
