My Letting Agent wants me to pay £47 for a "renewal of contract" becuase of some change in the law. What change in the law?

I meant to ask him myself when he rang earlier to tell me. However, I was busy trying to stop DS from putting his head in the oven at the time, and missed the opportunity. When I rang back, he'd gone out of the office!

Anyway, according to him, we can renew our contract for another 6 months (we have lived here 2.5 years, and have never done this) and we have to pay 47 quid to do it.

Why?

I certainly didn't have to pay to remew my contract last year. Sounds a bit weird, get a detailed explanation.

Not sure about that but i would like to know what they would do if you did not pay the £47.

I have to pay a fee to renew my contract (and so does the landlord). How often do you renew the contract, or is it on a rolling basis?

DP is going to ask them all about it tomorrow. He's better at this sort of thing.

I wouldn't mind, but we pay 700 a month for a shitty 2 bed ex council house as it is, plus all the council tax etc on top.

Hmm! Not sure about this. We rent privately but haven't been asked for anything.

It's a bit out of the blue, as we have rented property from this letting agent for the past 5 years, and we have never had to do this before
