Health Cash Back Plans

Now that one of my DCs has turned 18, no longer on our cash back plan. As he needs dental treatment and osteo, been looking around as NHS provision for the former is almost non existent here.

Some look reasonable and the small print fairly clear but I am wondering. Premiums can be between £10 and £15 a month and annual payouts for these areas (he's unlikely to claim under others) between £180 and £500 though dental (and that's the killer cost wise) payout are generally pretty small.

He's about the have a £90.00 filling (yikes) - and that's pretty much dental cover for the year with most of these policies. Of course, have spoken at length to him about prevention being better than cure ...

Any thoughts? Tempted to forget cash back plans and stash away a bit of money each month to offset his health care costs.

MoneyExpert recommends Medicash but that's presumably with adults requiring, or potentially requiring, a host of treatments in mind. We're with Simply Health and I'm really not sure that it's worth it. I guess these companies rely on apathy - DDs coming out each month and relatively few claims.

I would never ever pay for one of those plans.
I 'self insure' for lots of things
ie put the money in a savings account and if its not needed its still mine to spend
