I have a long term medical condition which requires some care that I would prefer not to have and which DH an and I have denied to some extent until recently. In September DH quit his job to care for me and in October got a job that pays £97 per week, which allow him to care for me and still earn a little until the new year when he. An start applying for full time work that he can do while caring for me. Although it was not planned to enable him to claim carers allowance with that in mind, it is ideal for him to claim as the purpose of this job is to free up time to take the slack of my disability and will hugely help with the financial burden of him having to reduce his hours.
He applied and backdated the claim. He was asked for payslips and he was owed these from both previous employer due to him not getting any for several months (bad relationship with employer due to time off work to care for me when I had major surgery) and nothing from new employer as he is a bit slack! He asked both employers for the info, which they provided but took their time.
He called the carers allowance team to say he could not get the info to them by the time they asked, they said that was fine. He called again when he had the info to send to let them know he was going to post soon. There was a missing payslip so he had to wait again, didn't phone them again. The letter with payslips was sent on 17th dec, 5 days after the agreed date.
He has just got a letter dated 17th to say he is not eligible as he earns too much. So my questions are:
*How do they know that he earns too much without the payslips confirming his salary since August?
*By Monday they should have the correct info to make the right decision. If he calls them can they take this information into account and revisit the decision using the info which shows he has earns under the maximum amount, or will he have to put the claim in again and lose money from August?
*Is he earning too much At £97 per week? That is his take home pay. He pays no tax or NI.
