Nans estate. Can I ask solicitor on progress? money left in Will

My elderly Nans died back in the summer. She left money for my siblings and myself in her Will.
Solicitor told my mum it should be released the first week in December after the four month notice was up.
Its a straightforward estate. No property to sell ect...
I just wondered if I can ask the solicitor involved on progress or is this not really done?
They wrote to me some months back to get my details but haven't heard since.
My siblings are also wondering. It Will be split equally between us so it is all quite straightforward.

Would it be insensitive of us to ask?

not at all insensitive
email them (as then you have proof)
and ask for confirmation of the date of completion of probate and when the distribution will be made
copy all the beneficiaries in as then you'll get a faster response

the solicitor works for you and is paid to do a job. Get chasing. They will stop work in two weeks and then nothing will happen until January.

to ignore you for months is disgusting. Lazy buggers.

It all depends on who the Executors of the Will are. That's who you need to be talking to. Perhaps you are? In which case, yes chase the Solicitors!

Thanks all. My dad was executor but he died the year before so mum turned it over to the solicitor. Ill get onto them.
Many thanks

OOh,
did you get a quote from the solicitor before handing it over
as technically if the executor died before the will maker, they were intestate so it could be expensive
BUT
when MiL died after shafting us royally we gave solicitor such a hard time on the email that he did the job PDQ and for the lowest level of fees (4% of value of estate)
solicitors are business people - like we accountants - they have no qualms
ramp it up
and get those cheques coming through, and if not, a darned good reason

I don't think that an executor dying means the person was intestate. Might be wrong but one of my grand executors died before her and we just carried on with one executor.

It can take months to get money released. My brother did my grand and it was five months before money was released, and he did it as quick as he could. But yes, do ring and ask.

I just checked the Will. Its says my dad and this solicitor were the only executors.
So I guess we have no idea how much it is going to cost.

OK, so the solicitor will be charging you between 4 and 8% of the total value of the estate : hassle them HARD to push it to the lower figure if nothing is actually being sold
daily is harsh
weekly is perfectly reasonable

I'll be on it in the morning!
