anyone deferred or been excused from jury service?

and if so on what grounds? for the first time in 6 years I had a month to myself - kids in school, not working, was planning to spend a bit of time on the house and get fit (honest) etc etc. then blummin jury summons comes through. I might technically still be a student, but will have finished my course. I'm on sabbatical from my job so not sure what happens if jury service extends past my dats for going back to work

On the form in scotland you can put down any dates within the next 12 months or so that you won't be able to attend, ie your hols. Means you're only really deferring once but letting them know not to recall you at certain times.
I was excused as I was suffering from depression as side effect of thyroid problems & Dr wrote me a letter. Reply stated I had a lifetime exemption. Result as I really didn't feel I could face it and 2 family members have been called for fairly harrowing cases. My brother's been twice, think he's a bit blase now & thinks he's Judge John Deed
