F**CKING Tax Credits

Harold · 13/07/2006 09:03

Sorry just want to rant . How the F*ck is it that when you get a pay rise that works out £50 a month more, your tax credits reduce making you £100 a month worse off than before the payrise. We are now well and truly buggered I hate the tossers so much GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Tax Credits are totally odd..I thought you didn't have to tell them now unless your income went up or down by 25K?

Sympathy to you

Harold · 13/07/2006 09:13

That's what I thought too and thats what they told me but then they send you the review pack that you have to fill in each year and we got the notification of adjusted award today and it's gone right down I think due to now being in the £25 grand bracket (I didn't think they did this anymore either!) and next year will be the minimum, this means that on £25 grand a year we will be getting the same amount of tax credits as someone who's on £52 grand a year it's bloody ridiculous.

yes, why don't they just abolish them huh?

Harold · 13/07/2006 09:17

I don't mean that SP but they need to stop telling people when they ring up 5 times in one month about a payrise that it won't change the payments then change the bloody payments anyway!

Harold, I would seek advice because this doesn't seem right at all and like yourself and zippi it is my understanding that such an increase shouldn't make any difference until next April.
When did you get the pay rise was it begfore or after April 06?

Harold · 13/07/2006 09:19

It was after, i will ring them but they seem to tell you one thing over the phone and then another when you get your notification.

I hate tax credits at the moment!
Our annual income was more than we quoted them last year because my dh gets a bonus each month which can vary greatly each month, we recieved our forms at the weekend to be told we had been overpaid by them. Thats fine, but to reduce our credit payments to just £20 every 4 weeks is absolutley rediculous!! How the hell do they expect us to manage on that??? The only plus side of this is we're having another baby in August, so that means our money will hopefully go up again!

Harold · 13/07/2006 09:20

It's just so frustrating they really don't seem to knwo what they're doing at all.

I hate them too!

Won't go into our story but it's been dragging on for 8 months, what timetable do these people work to??

Furball · 13/07/2006 09:26

We got 4 letters from them this morning! Very cost effective.

ssd · 13/07/2006 09:30

furball I bet at least 2 of them gave you separate amounts quoted and the other 2 were copies!

Harold · 13/07/2006 09:41

Haha yeah we got 4 letters as well. I've jsut rang them that 25000 thing only applies to the current tax year so if you ring them up and tell them you've earned 20 grand more from tommmorrow for example the award for this year won't change but next tax year it will go right down so that's bloody useful isn't it! I told him that they may want to word it better on their website as I know it's not just me that's misunderstood this rule. Although dp didn't get pay rise till this tax year his pay did increase slightly over last tax year as he got a new job so now we are suffering because of that iyswim. Surely there must be an easier way of doing this.

Do you know if they will bog off if I ignore their letters? A couple of years back I got my situation sorted out- after lengthy appeal process. They thought I was a joint claimant with my x husband. They admitted their error sent me a cheque for £3,000 and I thought that was it. Now 18 months later they have started writing to me and my x husband all over again. Even though the appeal was agreed. I don't have the energy to explain it all over again. If I just ignore the letters will they leave me alone? I am soon to move house anyway and have since changed surname.

albatros · 13/07/2006 14:34

Do people on £52 grand a year need tax credits?

Nemo1977 · 13/07/2006 14:38

harold..you know my feelings on the arses...told you yours seemed dodgy even though you triple checked it with them.

Harold · 13/07/2006 14:46

Nemo i'm that desperate i've just applied for a job they want an assistant archivist/librarian in the Maritime museum to cover maternity leave....wish me luck.
It's so hard filling in application forms when you've been a sahm for a while, but I have worked in the museum before and would truly love this job so fingers crossed!
