We applied for 2000. We need a new car as soon as really as ours is a)too small b)about to fall apart and c) we can't cope with anymore unexpected bill for £300+

We thought that we could get a loan no problems, but it's prioving difficult. Both of our banks have refused, and now NR have said no. Anyone have any idae of what we can do next without going to one of those dodgy "No credit, CCJs, Baliffs-at-your-door-within-seconds-of-missing-a-payment" jobbies that carge about 700% interest.

We are desperate!!!!!

Where can I get hold of my credit score rating?

Equifax, IG. Go on to their website and you can purchase a run-down of your credit history. It won't give you a credit rating as such as each place will do their own credit rating according to their own criteria. But it will show up any missed/late payments that might be causing you any problems.

Have you considered buying a car off ebay? Our last five cars have been bought that way and it's not hard to get a good deal. A lot of cars are almost worthless if they are older cars with bodywork damage, because the cost of repairing the panels is more than the value of the car - so you can end up with a car in perfect working order with maybe a dented side panel - works for me anyhow. Just a thought

Just for eg., we have just bought a volvo off ebay for £220 which on a forecourt would have cost over £1000 - if you are down this end of the market it is really worth doing (and we tend to take the view that if it is a complete dud we have only lost £220 then).
