neighbour drilling my wall to attach trellis.....

the back wall of our property backs directly onto the yard of a funeral directors....
it previously had a large metal construction on it which they paid to have removed (agreed by all parties)...
today i can hear banging, and feel it travelling through the house, so i look out of my bathroom window and they have a bloke drilling my wall and attaching trellis and climbing plants to it.
i don't mind that they are doing it, as the wall is an eyesore and it means we don't have the cost of repairing it (just as well, we have no money!) and we have always got on well with them, but i AM annoyed that they couldn't even knock on the door to let me know they are doing it.

does anyone know if legally they need my permission to attach the trellis to my wall?

ps i am more annoyed because they know i have a young child and the banging and drilling have woken him from his nap

Is it "your" wall or is it a shared boundary. I guess you need to check your deeds to find this out. If it is solely your wall then they should ask permission but I imagine it is not, unless there is a gap between where your wall ends and their property line starts.

Is it actually the wall of your house?
I know there has been a problem in our borough because the council screwed street signs directly into people's house walls (ends of terraces) and caused damp problems.

They should definitley have asked permission.

unless you have legal cover with your house insurance, if so use it, it's unlikely to make much difference because to legally do anything will cost far more than the damage done

it is actually a wall of my house........but is on the part of the property which is our new business (studio)......the walls are nearly two feet thick as it is a very old building.

i've decided to mention to them that i would have appreciated being told about it......but it's not worth falling out about.

i was just furious this morning.....i've calmed down now.
