Housing Benefit problems, please help!

I am very worried as I have been claiming housing benefit and c/w taxcredit without knowing I am not entitled to do so. I have only now found out. I own two properties, one is rented out one my ex partner lives in. I am renting with my 2 small children. I get no income from any of those places but they are on both our names. Now I am very worried that I will have to pay the housing benefit back I received over the last 2 years as I have no extra cash! I am happy to stop claiming housing benefit but don't know what to tell the housing benefit office! Please help!!

I agree felatio, sounds highly unlikely to me tbh. Actually I have just read up on it and it sounds like the op isn't entitled. I found out from the cab pages.

Seriously there was a TV show on awhile ago a out housing in a London borough and they were really going to town about checking to see if a guy was still on the mortgage of a house he owned with his x wife as it was an offence that could mean jail!

Guy had a baby and needed a home for him and his girlfriend but thought he may still be on mortgage on house in Brighton. Transpired that he wasn't after they contacted his x wife.

I realise you have strong opinions on the subject but calling the op dim (when for all you know she may have learning difficulties she didn't feel it was necessary to disclose) is not really helpful.

"It seems unlikely you are entitled I suggest your contact your council to organise a repayment plan"
would have sufficed.

You may not have noticed that the op did not state "aibu to claim hb?"

FellatioNelson · 25/09/2013 17:57

No, I think you'll find I actually said 'you can't be that dim'.

She doesn't have learning difficulties. Seriously...come on.

It's not as clear cut as that "fellatioNation" .... She has explained that she has split from hubby and had to rent somewhere else....going to citizens advice is a brilliant idea which I forgot to mention as they may well be able to explain things fully on her behalf to the hb office.... As I've said before if you can prove that you cannot meet the mortgage repayments and had to rent out the property due to it being in negative equity, you are entitled to hb on the rented property where you reside!!! That's hb legislation and regulations!!! Same as someone who owns a property and is out of work can claim council tax benefit.... Some of you may be entitled to help and not know it!!!

Oops sorry meant "FellatioNelson"..damn spellcheck :/

Nadz19 · 25/09/2013 20:05

I suggest you get a copy of your original applicati

Nadz19 · 25/09/2013 20:06

*original application form from hb and double check with cab!!! But if you purposely left out the information, you need to let them know ASAP!!!!

viperslast · 25/09/2013 20:59

Nadz from what I read that applies if you are in receipt of income based jsa or income support but the op here is working.

Anyway, none of this is helpful to the op. Op hope this all works out for you.
