Back in the late 90s I took out a couple of loans, I think the first definitely had PPI sold with it, and the second one was a consolidation of the first one, and I'm not sure whether I took out PPI or not. I'm fairly certain I was 'pressured' into taking the policy, given my fairly dodgy financial situation at the time, but now I'm in the process of trying to make a claim. I've looked on Martin's Moneysaving Expert, and can see there are a load of templates and very in-depth threads, but I'm a bit lost.
At the moment I have asked HSBC to look into the details of my loan and they haven't got back to me yet. I also asked Lloyds TSB and they sent a questionnaire this morning which has to be sent back within 14 days. I rang them up and said I don't have all the details they need (acct. no etc) and they have asked me to pay £10 to provide whatever details they have on file, so I'm in the process of doing that - even though I'm not actually sure which of the loans had PPI - possibly both did. I know it is outside of the period for which banks are required to keep details, so I am a bit sceptical about what they will send me. I was under the impression that it had got a lot easier to make claims but thus far I'm not exactly finding it plain sailing. Anyone else have any experience, particularly with loans and products from 10+ years ago, and little or no paperwork?
