US Federal taxes - can anyone recommend any tax software or advisors?

It's a longshot I know but DH needs to sort out his US Federal taxes. Everyone we know in the UK is on an expat package where their employer provides for this but not us Envy

Can anyone recommend any tax software?
Can anyone recommend any tax advisors?

Cheers

Have you tried H&R Block? I assume from your note that you're based in the UK - but I know when I lived in the US, i would just go to H&R Block and they sorted everything out for us (us being foreigners in the US). So it might work the other way round to. I think you can just file online with them

Yeah H&R Block was one of the packages we were looking at

Sorry I do my own -- but there was a thread earlier on this with a recommendation. Back in Oct, but the messages in it seemed to disappeared. It was in Living Overseas section though, so you could try posting over there.

I always did my own. It's not too hard and you can get free help from the irs as well. Just call them.

We have just paid an advisor to do the last 3 years worth and they have quoted 2 grand to do this year. However they have annoyed DH so we are looking for an alternative

DH looked at doing the backlog himself but it was far too complex even with the software. This year should be easier but we have to file for PFIC funds which will be tricky

If you want to CAT me, I can give you the name of a NYC based accountant who does my American tax returns. He's not part of a big firm (in fact it's his own firm). I've used him for about 20 years now, as I've moved back/forth between the UK and America and he's always been prompt, reliable and knowledgeable.

I use TurboTax. It's pretty good, although a real person who knows their stuff is always better if you have anything out of the ordinary.

TheBlonde · 19/12/2006 09:22

Earlybird - I have CAT'd you
