Hello.
I am the executrix for my dad who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 27th July.
Things have been very very difficult as you can imagine, but my siblings and i are managing to get through most of the paperwork and phone calls etc.
I wondered if anyone could answer a couple if questions I have?
I have been looking at the HMRC website and am a bit confused now!
There is no property (they rent) and aside from insurances, pensions and a death in service payment there is no estate.
As far as I can make out, these are not taxable so probate dies not apply?
My mother is the sole beneficiary and dad did make a will.
What if we dont need probate, what do I do?
Thanks for any help, it's all so bewildering.

Sorry for your loss.

I'm not a lawyer, but I sorted out my Dad's estate. Try this website for useful step by step info and links to the forms you will need www.gov.uk/wills-probate-inheritance/overview.

Very simply, you need to work out the value of your dad's estate, fill out a tax form and a probate form and submit it along with the will and a copy of the death certificate. You will have to attend an interview, then you will get a grant of representation which enables you to claim the money. You then distribute it in accordance with the will. It sounds tricky but its just lots of filling out forms.
