Tax credits and child turning 16, what happens next?

when I phoned up to renew our tax credits in June I told them that our oldest dd is staying on in full time education. She turns 16 this month. The renewal letter that we got says that we get £xxx up to August 26th then it will drop to £xx.

Am I right in thinking that they will write out to us again at the end of August to say now that your dd is 16 and staying on at school your payments will not drop to £xx but will actually be £xxx? Or do I have to phone them again before the end of august to remind them?

Thanks

My ds1 was 16 last month and is staying on at school too. They told me that we would be entitled to £xx til the end of August and then it would drop to £x.....however, after the 31st of August - because he was staying at school it would be recalculated and go back up to £xx, they would send out a new notification letter then too. I should check the amount paid in September (our payment date is the 11th, but yours might be different), and get back to them if it hasn't been recalculated.
It all seems unnecessarily complicated!

Ok, so I just keep an eye on the bank account and wait for a new notification to be sent out automatically.

Thanks

Well, that's what they advised me to do, so, yeah! Fingers crossed that their well oiled machine swings into action and it all gets sorted out without a hitch Grin

When I told the tax credit people Dd had turned 16 and was staying in full time education, the woman said it would show on my notification that she would drop off my entitlement but in actual fact the money would stay the same, I would just get another letter a couple of weeks later stating that
