I don't claim it but get an appointment with your local welfare rights. They will be able to advise you and give you an idea as to whether or not you will get it. Welfare rights are part of your local council (I think)

Ok thanks head, I've claimed dla for the last 18 years due to epilepsy never had an issues before with dla, always had the same rate and am now suddenly wondering what the hell will happen with pip! I found a guide online for their decision makers and looks like they will still use similar criteria to dla ie can you cook a hot meal unattended using hot pans etc so hopefully will still be ok. I'm not one for change eeeeekkkk

Actually the "cooking test" will not be used for pip but am sure you will be fine if your care needs haven't changed. Do you have any specific questions regarding pip?

Stressedtothehilt · 12/06/2013 07:37

Hi pearly I found is online www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/183075/pip-assessment-guide.pdf

And it says they are still using a cooking guide, in fact looks pretty similar to the the dla criteria. Page 80

Sorry pearly yes I do, will every new applicant have to do a face to face interview?

The member only guide has a lot more info but the self test and points list on this page might be useful.

Thanks boots

Stressed everyone will be assessed by atos or capita or whoever is covering your area. They will either assess you on paper or they will see you face to face. They will then pass on their findings to the decision maker .

PearlyWhites · 12/06/2013 09:24

As far as I know they are not using the cooking test anymore but I can find out this evening and let you know. With dla if people could not cook a hot meal they got low rate care pip has no low rate.

Thank you pearly that's helpful x

Devon is lovely though I plan to take the dc on holiday. You will get a paper form to fill in either way then the medical assessor will either just use that or also see you in person but it wouldn't be an interview as such.
I claim dla myself and keep telling myself it will be fine as my disabilities will not have changed.

PearlyWhites · 12/06/2013 11:09

Actually not a paper firm you have to fill it in online

Stressedtothehilt · 12/06/2013 11:27

Neither have mine it's still a worry though isn't it!

IIRC there are no paper forms at all, and currently no online claims - the initial application is all handled via phone.
