Can I claim tax back?

I was made redundant 6 weeks ago. I only worked part time and didn't earn enough to pay tax or NI on my wages. I am not claiming any benefits and I am not entitled to JSA. When I was paid my redundancy money I paid tax on my notice pay and holiday pay. People keep telling me to claim it back but I'm not very finance savvy so don't really know how or if I actually can. Had a look on HMRC website and I fit some of the criteria (unemployed for more than 4 weeks and not claiming benefits) but still don't really understand it!
Any help please??

The tax year goes from April 6th to April 5th each year and you are allowed to earn a certain amount before you are liable for tax. If you stopped work six weeks ago that sounds like late April so your redundancy money would be part of your 2013-14 income. This link takes you to the relevant section of the HMRC website and I would suggest you call their helpline 0845 300 0627 and ask their advice. Have your NI number, P45 and other documents handy. Good luck
