Hi I'm due to have our first baby at the end of August but every time I look online to see what we may get I get different things I'm so lost amongst it all
My partner will earn 17850 this year.
I will have earned about 3000 before my mat leave begins in July. Then I will have 35weeks mat leave before the next tax year, I read somewhere that you don't Count the first 100 a week of mat pay so that means 35weeks x 36.78 which = 1287.30.
So whole income for year will be 19137.30 not counting child benefit. Any ideas what we may be entitled to/rough figures just trying to plan ahead.

Thanks in advance Thanks

Sorry forgot to add the 3000 I will have already earned! So total earning without child benefit is 22137.30!
Little ones due 28th August so if on time CHild benefit will be from say start of sept if it'll make a difference

What was your joint income last tax year as that will impact how much you get?

Gonnabmummy · 05/06/2013 15:34

I thought it didn't matter if you told them it was decreased by over 2.5k this year? And it was around 30k

Doesn't child benefit only kick in once you've registered the birth? It may take a while to get on the system, as it were. That'll be around £80 PCM though.

Your best bet is the "am I entitled" website which will cover everything.

You also get free prescriptions for another year!

This table shows that you're likely to be eligible for between £340 and £2390. Doing some quick maths, they deduct 41p for every pound earned. If your joint income was £20000, you'd get £2390. You actually get £22137, so you need to deduct (0.41 x 2137) = 876.17 from £2390.

The likely award based on an income of £22137 is £1513.18 (£29 per week).

However, if they use your income from last year, you won't get anything at all.

I used the benefits adviser on direct gov before, which seemed quite extensive after completing it I got the estimate of child tax credits 62.72 and working tax credits of 53.53 per week! I don't understand at all... All the values are exact on there and even it's calculations at end add up this is why I'm so lost

However I filled it out as if baby was born this week. I think I'll have to wait to nearer the time or speak to an expert :s

You need to apply and based on last year's income you will be above the cutoff. Then you tell them if the change if circumstances and give estimate forbid year's income. You will only get ok child tax credits as working tax credit is for on a low income I think about £16k but yea you may get some tax credits until ending match.

With the income disregard you need to work on an annual household income of £24637.30. Input this into the tax credits calculator and you will get a rough idea of how much you will be eligible for. You definitely won't get any working tax credits although you will get a small amount of child tax credits - to give you a rough idea my household income is £18,000 and we get £60 per week so it will definitely be less than that :)
