Just went to look at a house today for 109k and it was a complete shit tip. The housing prices are ridiculous. First time buyers dont stand a chance.

I got my gas and electricity bill through today from good old british gas and i almost had a panick attack at how much i owe. Then i got a letter from telewest informing me of price increases yet the main reason ive got it is for cbeebs yet it hasnt been on air all day.

Everything in this country seems to be going up and the quality going down. Im just getting so disheartend. Dh is relatively on a good wage yet we are struggling to make ends meet which makes you wonder whats the point in working hard. Im bloody tempted to emigrate so sick and tired of being ripped off.

yes I agree with Pruni, every country has its own downsides. My sis left to go abroad and spent ages virtually crying down the phone saying how much she missed the NHS - now she has to pay medical insurance and it costs an arm and a leg.

The economy is a bit of a worry though. Many of our friends have been made redundant in the last few months and one of my good friends, a highly employable 33 yr old financial controller cannot get a job for love nor money. And there's talk of interest rates rising again.

House prices are just silly - but remember, although we are moaning about them, there are plenty of people who bought their houses 10-15 yrs ago who are laughing all the way to the bank.

hi, my husband is in the armed forces and we have lived in different places in the world. although we have family in uk we could not afford to buy a house there and with all the chavs and gangs everywhere we would want to live in a nice rural area but of course that costs, so we are seriously thinking of not returning back to the uk. living in germany at mo and it is beautiful, would defo consider here, although economy is bad at mo, or canada or oz. the uk just seems to be goin downhill all the time for one reason or another

We did buy 15 years ago but sadly we are not laughing all the way to the bank, wish we were, and got caught in negative equity along the way but at least we have a foothold on the ladder so to speak. If you go abroad the support network can be flawed so you may not be automatically given financial support if things go pear shaped job wise, and it can be very isolating.

We too bought a long time ago and aren't laughing all the way to the bank. I know lots of people who have moved abroad because they have an idealised view of what life abroad is really like - I am not suggesting that everything must be great overseas, I just feel that is what others think and we are losing a lot of families to New Zealand and Australia - my friends have been doctors, nurses and other "professional" type people. The NHS is a real bonus in the UK and I think there is too much grumbling about it.

I worry about house prices because we would like to move, but I don't want to be saddled with a huge mortgage when my kids are going to be going to uni and we need to help out there too. We both work and don't have a mortgage at the moment, but even with this we don't feel rich. I feel so sorry that people have had to borrow huge amounts to buy themselves a house/flat - I can't imagine how they manage to live with all the bills and everything.

For us, I would love house prices to fall, but for others I know that this could be a tragedy.
