Since I opted out of child maintenance because of domestic violence my income support has been reduced to 9.19 a week, although will go up in june when my budgeting loan is paid off.

The woman who interviewed ma bout opting out said that if they didn't accept i had good cause for opting out i would receive another form and be expected to put his details on and if i didn't, they would reduce my money by 20%. However, i never got another chance to give his details, they just reduced my money (by 40% not 20) and i am appealing but don't know how long i will have to wait.

DD1 grabbed my glasses off my face and broke them before i had a chance to take them off her and i had to pay for a new pair as they were beyond repair. The cheapest shop said there would be a weeks wait and i am really bad without them so i went to another shop and paid more money to get them the same day, but they glazed them on th wrong axis and had to send them back so it took a week anyway.

I had had to use my overdraft for them, and i didnt realize i had already used my overdraft so then had to pay a 38 charge for going over my overdraft limit. Direct debits that should have been cancelled weren't, so got another 38 charge for a BT DD that I didn't have money in my account to cover.

Used switch for 4 pounds in iceland and 4 pounds in adams, both on 8th May. The shops took the money out again on 9th May, when there wer not available funds so got charged 70 pounds card misuse.

Yesterday i got paid child tax credit, so today i transferred majority of that 260 pounds to my current account and my balance on my current account is now 33 pounds!

Oh and i ususally get my milk tokens two days before my child tax credit and they haven't arrived yet.

Sorry to hear this. It seems the people most in need of the benefit system have to walk through hoops to get assistance.

Re your glasses,i know it may not help now but if your on income supprot you should be covered for your optician expenses and glasses.I think!

moondog · 11/05/2006 21:45

CKMUM,those bank charges need to be dealt with for a start.
Have bumped relevant thread for you into Active Convos (sorry,it says it's for Looby-got confused.)

CKMUM · 13/05/2006 11:17

not covered for glasses because i only had some from the nhs a year ago, you only get help every two unless your prescription has changed.

I have been lucky and one of the 38 pound charges has been refunded as I am on benefit

Call the bank back and ask for all the charges to be refunded, it is disgusting they are entertaining charging you when they can clearly see the situation.
Or print these off and drop them into your local branch to save a stamp
www.bankcharges.info
Most of us are having to send 3 or 4 letters but if it gets to the court stage because you are on benefits you wouldn't have to pay anyway.

Certainly worth fighting the banks they have no right to make money out of people like you.

stoppinattwo · 15/05/2006 13:16
