Tax credit question

Hi, me and my DH are applying for tax credits and the form is asking for information from the 2011-2012 tax year.
In that tax year we were doing ok financially but both our hours have now been cut so we're struggling.
How will the tax credit people know that we are now bringing home a lot less than we were in 2011-2012? There is nowhere on the form to tell them this.
Sorry if this has been asked before or it's a really obvious answer but I'm just worried I'll send the form off and we'll be rejected based on our income from 2011-2012.
Thanks :)

You should complete the form with the information as requested but then follow up with a call to the Tax Credit Helpline telling them about your new circumstances. Contact details here

There's lots of information on Tax Credits on the HMRC website and there's even a calculator to let you see what your award is likely to be (based on your new circumstances, obviously). Another good tax credit calculator is at www.turn2us.org.uk... which will also show you if there are other benefits to which you may be entitled. It's not a scary process but, as with any other admin task, make sure you keep records, take notes and make follow up phone-calls rather than sitting back waiting for someone to act.
