Self employed and off sick

Im a childminder and last thursday i fell 10ft off a ladder while dusting and broke my shoulder in 3 places and my arm

I had surgery on monday so hopefully on the mend

Will know more when the morphine runs out

Anyway its a nightmare re work i was due back on monday but managed to let everyone know on thursday i would be off

Surgen said 6 mths so i was wondering should i get a helper in after 8 weeks that could push peam etc and work with me

I would only want them till july so short term and have had loads of offers on the money i have offered

But.......

Do i need to emply them etc cant be bothered going down thar route but if my earnings are down because im paying a helper i need for it to be shiwing on my books

Employing them is probably best. If you have an accountant they may be able to arrange the paperwork, otherwise there are payroll agents that specialise in small payrolls - I can't recommend one because I have a vested interest (I am an accountant that would do this for you if you were my client!)

The alternative would be to get someone through an agency with the agency being their employer. This is likely to work out much more expensive though.

Sorry, forgot to mention that the cost for a payroll agent for a full year should be only about £100-£150, you might get a discount for a shorter period but as it bridges a year end and a big change in HMRC's payroll procedures in April which is a huge amount of work, probably not.
