I've been signed off work for 2 months but i'm self employed working 16+ hrs to ensure I get tax credits and that my maintenance isn't affected (which it is if you're on income support).

If I go actually take the time out for 2 months will I also have to give up the tax credits? I could really do with taking the time out but I don't want to be totally wiped out financially.

Thank you!!!

Esbee,

You won't have to stop your tax credits as you are still self employed, just signed off for 2 months.

Also i would look at the benefits section to see if there is anything you are entitled to whilst signed off.

I know I could get the stat sick pay or whatever it's called. Well I think so anyhow! Will I really still get the tax credits even though I wont be working in that time though? (assuming I do take the time out)

essbee,

as long as you are declaring that you are self employed, you will definately get the tax credits for both work and child tax.

For instance, i am employed like you are self employed, i was signed off for 3 weeks last year and was still able to get my tax credits as i hadnt left my job, just too ill to do it.

Don't panick about it, as long as you are self employed and are going to carry on when the sick note runs out you can get it.

Oh and one more thing, if you have been medically signed off, i would reccomend that you don't work as if anything goes wrong etc... you wont be covered by insurance etc....

If you have been signed off, then stay off and concentrate on getting better.

Thanks Butty, in that case I will take the time out (not that time out is that over the Easter Hols!!). I was signed off a while ago but didn't take the time out and continued to work.. hadn't occured to me about the insurance tbh.
