Sad Definately racist?

DH got the wrong night bus home one time and ended up having to walk through Wester Hailes to get home - he was sh*tting himself. Got stopped by some lads who then offered him a tin of special brew for the journey!

mommie · 22/03/2006 16:00

child care vouchers are up £5 a week --hmmm, big deal

Normsnockers · 22/03/2006 16:06

Big deal indeed, it's actually a further insult to those whose employers won't actually operate such a scheme.

Am considering writing to my local labour M.P. about this very matter.

It seems a lot of mumsnetters don't actually benefit from this "help for working parents".

Anyone else missing out and angry enough to contact their M.P. about it ?

Uwila · 22/03/2006 16:16

I'm with you Normsnockers (and by the way your screenname cracks me up). But I probably won't bother writing my MP about it because they won't care when they realise I'm not British.

It is definitely an insult. Why does my employer need to be involved. Why can he just give me a tax break worth £110 /month (55 for me and 55 for DH).

expatinscotland · 22/03/2006 16:17

I'm hoping it's not a racist attack. It's still being investigated, though.

Asian attacker on Asian lady suggests some form of family/feud attack to me EPIS. Interesting that the car is thought to come from West of Scotland, I wonder if she was 'in hiding' in Edinburgh. Poor bloody woman whatever the reason.

Normsnockers · 22/03/2006 16:38

I do benefit from the scheme. However we have full time childcare costs for our ds and my husband's employer won't offer the scheme as they say they have done a cost vs benefit analysis and there is not enough margin of saving from the from the amount of employers NIC on the vouchers substituted for pay to cover their costs of administering the scheme.

The government legislated that both parents could claim the vouchers but possibly employers are looking for a saving to come to them also. Either that or the government seriously underestimated the costs of administering the scheme when they thought that the employers NIC saving would be sufficient to cover such costs.

Dh would save over £1,000 each year in tax and NIC. We would have an extra £90 a month going into our bank account as would lots of his work colleagues.
