spooky - i was just about to start a thread asking how to go about it....
can anyone help?

Katymac · 17/03/2006 17:02

just freelance arts admin - you need PII to tender for lots of jobs.

not as exciting as your new venture.

Katymac · 17/03/2006 17:08

What's Arts Admin (am I being particularily thick?)

OP posts:
Mazzystar · 17/03/2006 17:11

visual arts administration - organising arts projects, fundraising, evaluation type stuff. have managed to do a bit without being properly self-employed so far, but need to sort it out now

Katymac · 17/03/2006 17:12

So if I get stuck...can I ask you for help? I know i's a different field - but the events organising frightens me a bit (I just "do" parties)

Mazzystar · 17/03/2006 17:18

of course! any time.

Katymac · 17/03/2006 17:20

Thank you - that doesn't get us the PI Ins tho does it

We can take it in turns to bump occasionally over the week end

I tried to get this when I was doing interior design but you have to have professional qualifications and good experience or it is inordinately expensive..AXA do most of the small business and self employed insurance I think

Mazzystar · 17/03/2006 17:54

I think I am maybe too stupid to do freelance work because I think what I actually need is Public Liability Insurance. I will blame having a brain-frazzling toddler and an imminent migraine.

zippitippitoes · 17/03/2006 17:59

public liability insurance is easy to get, you can also get product liability insurance and employers insurance AXA specialise in this (professional indemnity insurance is to cover you for negligence in your professional advice so apllies to solicitors, architects, engineers, accountants etc)

Whizzz · 17/03/2006 18:07

DH uses a specialist company who only deals in his line of work. You should be able to get quotes via the internet though (or so he says)
Google & see what you get

Katymac · 17/03/2006 21:07

I've been told if I'm advising people I need the professional indemnity Insurance - but maybe that's wrong (as I'm not a professional)

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 17/03/2006 21:10

I think your advice has to have a legal context so you can be proved negligent if it fails and your client loses either financially or through injury etc

zippitippitoes · 17/03/2006 21:11

what is the job/advice

Katymac · 17/03/2006 21:16

Advising afterschool clubs on setting up and policies and procedures (equal ops, child protection etc) & advertising

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 17/03/2006 21:23

do you have any relevant qualifications if not then | think you will have difficulties (as you are finding). Your advice is only that so difficult to sell without authoritative back up I think, no one can build a business on it in case it is inaccurate

Katymac · 17/03/2006 21:25

No (& not much experience) - But if I cock up I'm stuffed aren't I?

CP, Equal Ops, etc are all serious stuff

Try Arthur Doodson's in Manchester, you can do it all over the phone - very good for arts-related PI or PLI - will find number

ediemay · 17/03/2006 21:34

Katymac · 17/03/2006 21:37
