Hi all, I need your advice on benefits when a disabled child turns 16. My DD is in a full time boarding school (52 weeks).she is going to live there until the age of 19TH. She recently turned 16, I received her NI number. I am receiving part of her DLA which is mobility £20 p/with. I am getting child benefit and child tex credit for her. I need to know what benefit will stopped and what can be applied for 16 yrs old disabled. Also she is not able to manage her affairs because of her disability so I am responsible for all her affairs. I am also responsible for providing pocket money and her shopping needs etc. Please provide me as much info as you can.

52 weeks a year at school? If so I don't really see that you should be receiving any money for her.

Who pays for the boarding school? Is she home at weekends/holidays?

kittycat68 · 11/09/2012 18:49

it all depends on the hours at the boarding school. we need more info OP. is she home at all and how many hours per weeks or is she there all 7 days per weeks. also is the local authority paying for this.

DLA gets reclaimed as an adult and if she is still in eduction not above level 3 the other benefits will stay the same, until she turns 20. The best place to check it out is direct.gov.
