Are these stupid questions about PPI?

It seems clear that my partner and I need to claim for mis-sold PPI.

I understand that the banks have set aside a fair amount of money to repay this.

My inclination is to consult our financial advisor about the best way to proceed with the claim. But was he part of the problem? Was he complicit in mis-selling us PPI?

I'd also like to know the procedure for calculating how much we might be owed.

If you think your financial advisor missold you a product get yourself a new one. While you're doing that put in a claim with the financial institution using the templates on MSE link here. They will get back to you with forms to complete and you take if from there. Potentially, if it has been missold, you stand to be reimbursed the full amount you've paid out, plus interest.

Thank you, Cogito. That's the thing, I don't know whether it was our financial advisor who missold us, or whether he was just following what the bank required of him. And I don't know how to figure that out.

MSE recommends "Contact the company that sold you the policy - in this case, the financial advisor or broker. If the seller acted as an 'appointed representative' of the insurance provider, it may say to contact the provider instead."
