**BEST RATES SAVINGS ACCOUNTS FOR CHILDREN (NOT TRUST FUNDS)**

Can anyone recommend a bank/building society that offers a good rate for the childrens pocket money, Christmas money etc.

I want to be able to deposit and withdraw whenever I want - just want somewhere to put the dosh really with a decent interest rate. We've lots of long term policies for them and it's not the trust fund thingy.

Thank you.

when we opened ds's nationwide was best... no idea if it still is though.

actually, that's a lie.. halifax were best but when we went in there was no-one available to open it for us! so we went to nationwide which was second best

we have two account for our girls, one with the halifax and one with nationwide

Thank you both - katzq, do you know which has the higher rate out of your two. Is there a reason you have different ones?

look in any of the saturday or sunday quality papers in their finance sections - i read the guardian and observer rates

finnacial times and guardian also do best rates on their websites i think including best rates for children's savings accounts:

look in the money sections of these:

ft.com

guardian.co.uk

if you can leave it for a year get a halifax childrens regular saver with 10% annual..which seems to be a good thing and a few of other banks are joining in the 10% savings too..check out a company called motley.co.uk for info on all things financial..they`ve been a great help to us and we use the halifax savers one

I've been looking at this yesterday and from my 'research' Halifax are currently the best - 10% account if you save a set amount each month paid in by standing order £20 to £100 for 1 year. After the year they transfer it into one of their Save4it childrens accounts - still a good rate something like 4.85%. Alternatively, you can just open a Save4it account and pay in/take money out whenever you want.
The other good rate is with firstdirect online e-saver account currently 5.03%

the reason we have two is they have one account for a general account which birthday, christmas and bonus money goes in - which throught the year we might spend on them (nationwide), and then my parenmts wanted to pay a regular amount into an account for them which they can't touch until they are older, halifax have a childrens regualr saver account which has a 10% interest rate you have top save £10 a month and at the end of 12 months this is paided into a hlaifax smart to save account.

We chose the nationwide because we bank with them and the halifax because they is a branch at the end of the road.

Britannia is good - and sometimes appears on the 'Best Buy' tables.

Another vote for the Nationwide here-we've got all our savings accounts with them and find them very goodSmile.

Thank you all for your input. I'll do the web searches and bear in mind your recommendations.

Thank you.
