Child life insurance?

I've just sorted (or attempted to- they are reviewing as my- ahem- fat father and sister have high blood pressure, I am a good weight but affects my claim) our life insurance, but it occurred to me that if one of my boys dies (God forbid) I wouldn't be able to cover their funeral whilst I am at Uni. Probably linked thought to all the Dunblane stuf today Sad.

Whn I was a kid Muma nd dad had an endowment policy on us for just this reason, but I canot find anyone who does any form of insurance (know lots of issues on Endowments) on the web.

Anyone have any ideas, please?

what a depressing thought - I must confess that's something that's never crossed my mind. Sad

I don't think that term or life assurance is available for children - you need to have an 'insuraable interest' in a 3rd party to insure their life, such interest is normally financial hence why I don't think it is offered for children.

An endowment is not necessarily a bad thing - it is in essence a savings plan with life assurance attached and at term (i.e. when you boys were 18 or 25) you wuld probably have a small amount of savings to give them too.

The DSS will also provide help with funeral costs in cases of low income I think - not sure on the criteria thou'.

Call an IFA and ask for some proper professinal advice thou'.

you can insure children for accidents

gomez · 13/03/2006 10:32

Aye accidents, health & dental care but the rules around life assurance are different. Introduced to stop people from randomly isuring anyone in the hope that they would pop their clogs and they could claim ££ - hence 'insurable interest' normally demonstrated by a financial connection. I don't know is this is the reason thou'.

We would all hope to not need to claim on a life assurance policy for our children in which case an endowment policy which mixes savings/life assurance is a better bet as you have something to show at the end of the piece. Unlike term assurance where if you don't claim you get nothing.

It might be worth looking at something like Halifax First Assist \link{http://www.bankofscotlandhalifax.co.uk/insurance/healthcare.shtml\ Here} which is an adult healthcare plan with an accident top up, but children are free..it is actually a health care plan but might be worth considering something similar to that..

in the case of a child's accidental death it is likely an insurance claim could be made either public liability, car insurance, travel insurance, home insurance or victim of crime.

Thanks, have had a look at Halifax and will consider.

Anyone know of where you can get an endowment these days? If you search on net, all you get is a load of claim sites. I'm not all that bothereed 9though would be nice obv) about profits, but would like the savings bit.

Peachyclair - honestly phone anIFA and they will be able to advise - in particular they will have current providers details.
