Anyone know about council rehousing for disabled people?

Currently rent privately (£1300 per month ouch), which my ss think is totally unsuitable for me.

one bed flat for me & my 2 yr old Ds. It has steps front & back which are dangerous for me, and no way of making the bathroom accessible for me, or putting an intercom in so I don't have to move to let carers etc in..., etc,

They have said they want to find me a 3 bed ground floor property, one for me, one for Ds & one so i can get a live in carer, potentially w outside space, ability to put a disabled parking bay v nr & will make adjustments for me in the house... I would love this to happen!!!

HOWEVER I am still earning a reasonable wage. I have a part time permanent contract in a professional job. Used to work full time & just made director when
I got ill, rewrote my job into a digital role & reduced to part time. It's v unstable, as I am not doing the amount of wrk in my contract, & doing what little I do at home mostly. I am flrcing self to try & krep this job open as i work in a v specislised area & am so ill findinh ankther job would never happen, and also as i am paying back debts (h in my name) so i see none of it.

But on paper it looks like am doing ok (in reality we are surviving on hand outs from friends and the dla)... So will this mean theycan't help me after all?

If I could get this amazing flat (If it exists anywhere!), then I would reduce my hours so assuming it was less to rent (?) I'd aim to break even (ish), as I do need to reduce hrs due to health

Anyway - anyone got any advice about this?

Ps the one thing I can't do is move out of the council area (central London) & afford a 3 bed house that way, as my council support me alot & will pay for my care or a carer, & if I move councils who knows what they'd help with & how quickly. If am without care for 24 hrs my life kinda crashes down.

Why don't you get on the list and see?

You will get points allocated then mist likely, you will be left to bid on a property as it becomes available

I guess I don't want to go through all the paperwork as it knocks me for six! But yes probably what I'll end up doing.
I wouldn't be on the bidding thing at first apparently, as disabled people get one choice of someone finding a suitable property as there are so many additional needs. Then if I refuse I go on the bidding thing.
Guess it just all sounds too good to be true, I don't think theyd even have a suitable property anyway!

Your needs don't sound complicated to me, Double Smile. I'm sure the sort of accommodation you need can be found.

Council housing allocation is based on need, income is only part of that. Your income is only relevant in deciding how much of the rent you will pay.

When we were rehoused due to DD1's needs, we were moved up the bandings to band 2, then told that if we didn't find anything within a few months, they'd take us out of the bidding system all together and simply give us priority.

When a house came up in our village (our assessed needs were: 3 beds with parlor room, reasonable garden space, not too near a main road, downstairs toilet, close by parking) which meet the criteria,we bid.

We only came 3rd on the bidding, but then we got a phonecall asking for documents. A few days later, the OT called to arrange a walkthrough to assess suitability for DD1. She made a note of extra modifications needed (only a few) and signed it off as suitable. Once work was finished we were given a move in date.
