Regularly: (i,e by standing order) to the Medical Foundation. (victims of Torture) and STEPS charity (children with lower limb deformities).
On the spur of the moment - to things which have affected people I know or have heard about...esp connected with children.
Bought a brick in a new children's theatre, in DS's name.

We give to Cancer Research by Direct Debit every month.

I give £4 a month to something called Ty Hafan - which is a children's hospice just outside Cardiff. An elderly chap comes around once a month to collect the money for a 'lottery'.

When I had my own bank account (when I used to work - now a SAHM) I used to give to Macmillan.

expatinscotland · 10/03/2006 19:16

we give goods and recycle textiles. oxfam and bernardo's respectively.

donate furniture and appliances to edinburgh furniture initiative to kit out council homes for folks who don't have anything.

if i won lotto i'd deffo support doctors w/o borders, oxfam and the salvation army. also the charity that brings kids from developing nations to the US for much-needed surgeries, and to go for the improvement of foster care for china's unwanted females. and to help pay adoption costs for families wishing to bring some of those girls home. also to oprah's angel network, helping people from developing nations afford education for themselves and their families.

Dh is a mason in the local masonic lodge and so they give to various charities quite a lot on a monthly basis. we have fund raising nights and social events. the most recent one is that they contributed to a local school mini bus and to a local child who needed some lifesaving equipment to help her be at home. They do vary depending on what money they have to donate each month.

donnie · 10/03/2006 19:35

we sponsor a child in Uganda and have done for the last 3 years.i can't tell you how lovely it is to get his occasional letters! ( he is 7 ).
Also give periodically to the RNLI ( lifeboats) UNICEF and cancer research.
It's so hard to decide who to give to though...so many deserving causes.

Jasnem · 10/03/2006 19:52

Direct debit to Terrance Higgins Trust (Aids charity)

mancmum · 10/03/2006 20:05

NSPCC -- every month

Do volunteer work for charities which I guess counts...

Interested that donating to a school kids are at can be called charity... not trying to be inflammatory == just never thought that was charity becasuse we have a vested interest.. but if it counts, put me down for it!

Kaz33 · 12/03/2006 19:05

Regularly (every Mother's Day, and anniversary of dh'd mum's death) to Cancer Relief. I also give money when boxes are around for any child charity or cancer related one.

PeachyClair · 13/03/2006 09:56

Yes, but I would as used to work for them. Practice what you preach and all that.

When I had a regular income I had sd's for Oxfam, NSPCC, was a member of Amnesty, WWF, and I think another one I can't remember.
Now I just give to main appeals / things that catch my eye when I have a spare pound.

I give time also, which is at least as valuable.
