as in we can't find the blummen thing....

took it to my mum's when we went down to help her make a start on clearing out some of my late dad's clutter. he died in december and this is really the first effort we'd made to try and clear some stuff. he was a bit of a horder and had lots of old papers/newspapers etc.

well we managed to clear a lot of stuff. got home late the following evening, realised we didn't have the ipad. called mum the next day and asked her to find it and put it somewhere safe. she couldn't find it but we weren't worried as she didn't really know what she was looking for (she knows ipads but ours is in a wallety thing), i went down the following weekend and searched (and searched and searched) for it to no avail. when i got back told husband to thoroughly search all his stuff for it. didn't show up. decided to check mum's again the folowing weekend. in the meantime she had her lady who cleans for her check all over for it again.

long and the short is that we still haven't found it and i've a horrid sinking feeling that it somehow got tangled up ni the stuff of dad's we were putting out and it is now probably languishing at the local dump.

now i can't afford to lose something this expensive. it was a treaty chrimble present for thte husband to say thansk for the suppport while dad was ill. it cost £550 and i'm still not finished paying for it. i am very risk averse and have a fairly expensive home contents insurance policy. it definitely covers items away from the home to a value of £1000 but would this be covered. we genuinely don't know what has happened to it. it def hasn't been stolen but it isn't in her house. can anyone tell me if my missing/lost ipad would be covered by most contents policies? i don't want to call up and make an idiot of myself if it's not something they'd ever consider.
sorry so long. thanks

Is there a tracker facility on it? You'll have to check your policy to see if you have cover for items taken out of the house. I was unable to claim for a diamond necklace which snapped whilst I was out and went god knows where as I wasn't covered for things taken outside the house. Sad

Depends on your policy, but many will have an excess of circa £250 and then will increase cost of your annual premium so it may not be worth it.

LadySybildeChocolate · 13/08/2012 11:05

I lost part of my no claims bonus the last time I claimed, hermione, sometimes they knock that off rather then increase the premium.

We have had to name laptops seperately on our policy so they are covered when we are away. I would check with your policy first. if not covered get it covered and then claim later

brianhaddock · 13/08/2012 11:08

tracker wasn't turned on as only discovered it existed when googling ipad finding options after it was lost. not a 3g one so would only work when in wifi range anyway.
as i said, def covered for going out of the house. only items above £1,000 need to be specified. this isn't worth that much. excess is £50 - i am very risk averse. prepared to take the hit on increased premium next year. i have never made a claim on my home policy so can't guess how much it would increase by.

I think it is safe to say your premium won't increase by the cost of an ipad. We made a large £1000's claim 2 years ago and now our premiums are back to pre claim prices - if that helps.

brianhaddock · 13/08/2012 11:14

the thing is i have checked my policy and can't be certain this circumstance is covered. i would literally be calling and saying 'it's lost, we think we threw it in the rubbish - but can't be sure'. does that sound like the sort of thing insurance covers?

agree on the increased premiums. plus any increase would be apportioned over 10/12 months so wouldn't feel so bad. but (and i know this sounds ridiculous) we are all really missing the ipad!!! it was so useful and so easy to use. boo hoo

ring up as a perspective customer and ask if thgat type of thing would be covered under their policies

brianhaddock · 13/08/2012 11:33

der why didn't i think of that? will give it a try tomorrow (when child-free!). i have to go to my mum's and give it one last check over, as i really can't believe it isn't there. the whole thing is just mad.
