Keep getting phone messages and emaills to claim back PPI. Not sure if this is a scam or not. Has anyone applied and had success with this?

Ppi companies charge over £250 per £1000 they claim for you. Better off doing it yourself!

They are fishing for business. As Bonkerz says, they will do all of the work for you in return for a cut of the refund. The Money saving expert web site has all of the letters that you need, so you can do it yourself for free.

A lot of people are registering with the telephone preference service to stop these calls. I'd do that. I'm currently getting 3 or 4 per day, which really pisses me off. I registered yesterday (the phone has only been connected for 2 weeks), and will have to wait a month for it to work.

It's between scam and touting for trade. I've had calls recently from foreign-sounding people telling me very confidently that 'their records show' I could claim back thousands. Since I've never had PPI in my life, 'their records' are a load of old hooey.

They charge a fortune to fill in a form which you can do yourself!

If you have had PPI then it is so easy to claim it back yourself, please don't use one of these companies!

We called royal bank of scotland as had loan with them in 1995 and they have a team who deal only with ppi claims, they sent out paperwork, guided me through it all and within 10 weeks i had £4000 back. They take nothing to do it.

Can you claim back ppi if you have no longer got the paperwork for the original loan at home? Dh was hoodwinked a few years back (I was fumining with him at the time!) and I suggested he now claim it back, but he thinks we can't as he no longer has details. Sorry to hijack thread op! The loan was with nationwide.

CogitoErgOlympics · 03/08/2012 10:30

Yes, you can. Obviously, the more information (dates, account numbers, amounts) you have about the original loan the better. He may be able to get some extra details by running off a credit report because those seem to store information going back a long way. Then if he runs off one of the templates off the MoneySavingExpert website section on claiming missold PPI and sends it to Nationwide, they have to check it out.

TequilaMockinBird · 03/08/2012 11:16

Or he could ring nationwide and ask them for the policy number.

You don't need it though, where it asks for it on the form, I've entered 'can't remember' and still it has gone through. They will check based on name, address, d.o.b etc

Ooh, thanks! Fab advice, I'm all hopeful again now :-)
