remortgaging

My fixed rate mortgage with Natwest is coming to an end and I don't know what I need to do next. I thought we had fixed till October (which is two years after we moved in) but have just had a letter saying the rate expires at the end of August, so I need to sort this out asap.

DP have always lived in the flat together, but the mortgage had to be taken out in my name only because at the time he was on a temporary contract at work and they wouldn't lend in his name. This meant we couldn't put him on the deeds of the house. He is now in a permanent job and we would like to add his name to the mortgage, and the deeds. Is this possible?

Also, I am now pregnant. Would I need to declare that to the mortgage lender and if so would it cause a problem?

Thanks

Don't tell them you're pregnant, it avoids all sorts of hassle re maternity pay :)

Yes you can add him onto the remortgage, just explain when you call them and it will be sorted.

Natwest offer different deals when remortgaging rather than a completely new mortgage. Ring them and see what they can offer you, then have a look online to see what other institutions can offer, see how they compare.

I'd also add 'don't panic'. Rates are pretty low and show no signs of moving at the moment so if you go back to their SVR at the end of the fixed term it may not be a trainsmash.

Thanks for your replies.
I won't mention being pregnant!

Just to agree that there is no rush to remortgage quickly - you'll automatically go onto the SVR, which for us was better than any remortgage deal we would have gotten because out LTV had changed. Moving to SVR saves us about £200 a month.

I just thought I'd update this thread. I called Natwest and they could offer me a new fixed rate which is less than the variable rate, so I've moved over to this. They didn't ask any questions, so I didn't mention being pregnant.

Adding DP to the mortgage has to be done separately and we have to appoint a solicitor to sort out the deeds.

Thanks everyone for your advice.
