Right me, my partner and my baby have just moved into a non furnished house from living in a furnished house even before we had baby. We are on a joint income based Jsa claim wev now been turned down twice for one even though I know we're eligible! I'm wondering could this be because I applied for it but the benefits in his name? I did send a letter explaining and proof of benefit but still got turned down yet again but the tenancy for the house is in my name not his although he is a added on tenant I'm the main tenant so would he even be able to apply? This isn't fair we just want to get our house sorted wev already waited over 5 weeks.

I would have thought you would need to apply for a budgeting loan rather than a grant, I'm sure you are expected to pay back money for furnishing a house! Have you looked on Freecycle, Facebook usually has local free/selling sites, and charity shops? You will keep getting turned down as you aren't eligible for a grant.

Doesn't sound like you fit the criteria which are

You probably got turned down because if you don't explain how you fulfil one of the criteria the previous poster linked to (I.e. being part of a resettlement programme, etc) the JC+ don't enquire into whether you qualify under one of the 4 headings, they just turn you down.
What I don't understand is why you don't give them a call to find out rather than posting on MN Smile?
Bear in mind the time limit for appealing.
Good luck Smile

Sorry I forget to mention we were in a family homeless accommodation before moving and in teenage homeless accommodation while I was pregnant aswell as being on income based job seekers. I know 100% we are eligible but I think as I'm on my partner's benefit claim which is in his name the application needs to be in his name although he's a a tenant in our new house he's not a main tenant so would this cause any further complications? I am 110% sure we are eligible.

Still doesn't sound like you are eligible, it's when leaving a care home Or institutional care that you would be able to apply, I wouldn't have thought this would be applicable to homeless accommodation. Call them tomorrow and check, but I really do think it will be a loan rather than a grant which you are eligible for.

Hi you are eligible- but you will most likely get turned down as the benefit is being scrapped in April.

Nearly all grants I've applied for with my clients (I run a hostel) have been turned down.

You're best off:
Freecycle
Asking sure start to put an appeal for you in their newsletter - asking parents for old things
Barbados charity shop
eBay

You are eligible, can you take it to the job centre and ask then to fill it in with you or maybe your support worker at the hostel?
