Best (free) software for managing budgets?

I am trying to get on top of our financial situation (have been for a while) and I need to keep a detailed budget of what we spend and when so that I can keep control of our spending and make sure we aren't frivolous (and can see where we can cut corners)

Can anyone in the know recommend something that will help and is relatively easy to use?

I use Microsoft Money and like the budget, cashflow and reporting functions. Available as a free download on the microsoft site. Google MS Money Deluxe Sunset.....

I just use an Excel spreadsheet, but have also started using an app called iReconcile. Free and very easy to use...

Ynab - you need a budget (google it) is fantastic but after the free trial (60 days?) is not free. It's bloody ace though.

there's something on the Money Saving Expert website which is supposed to eb good, along with loads of advice.

We use EEBA, which is an envelope system - really good if you have smartphones, as the app is great, and syncs between household computers and phones.

Agree about YNAB - you need a budget. It's absolutely brilliant. It was suggested to me by another MNer (thanks Trilpot). I've been using it since mid March and we've never managed to save so much. If you have an iPhone or android, then there is an app which links into it. They have just brought out a new version which syncs wirelessly via Dropbox and it's just made it better.
You do have to pay a ( about £45, I think), but you can do the free trial for 30 days first to see if you like it.
