Christians Against Poverty: worried

Contacted CAP last year for help with dealing with a solicitor's debt. Promised to ease the burden, taking over the negotiations when they broke down.

Caseworker foolishly applied for a £1.00 a month variation order which was, literally, laughed out of court. Following the court's response, and subsequent bailiff action, caseworker has been unresponsive (for months at a time); has asked for information which is already in the file (I guess to indicate that something is being done) but has not negotiated with the solicitor's firm or, as CAP promised at the start, sent the court the authorisation form that I filled in, at the very start, allowing the court to deal directly with CAP.

All in all, a shambles with this caseworker and though I've suggested that my case is transferred to another worker, nothing much has happened - just, some months ago, an apology for poor communication from a colleague but then I was back to the caseworker I started with.

I pay a nominal amount into my CAP account every month - don't know what's happening to it as no plans are in place -

Anyone experience of taking things up and further with CAP or moving from one such agency to another? That would be a chore - all the data is with CAP - but perhaps better than banging my head, continuously, against this brick wall. I want this debt dealt with on a systematic basis. Thanks!

WHo did you speak to about changing caseworker? Id be straight on the phone with head office in the AM. I know a few people who have been helped by CAP and had no problems at all.

I think you have posted about this before? As before I will suggest you contact head office, CAP are usually very professional and are very well respected.

Are you dealing with a case worker at a local level or one in head office.

I was with Cap a few years ago and I found them a pretty mixed bag to be honest.

My local case worker was ok and did a lot for us but the next one we had messed up my council tax debt and we ended up with the bailiffs which took months to sort out.

I also found that she had different ideas on what I should cut back on. Internet yes, sky yes of course, but not my phone. And she expected me and dp to only have one mob between us and spend no more than a tenner on it. A month.

I'd push for different case worker, most of them are good but others are not. Do you have to have cap? I dont have any advice about moving agencies as we ended up leaving cap in the end and negotiating with our creditors ourselves.

We seemed to have trouble when our case was transferred to Bradford or was it Leeds. When it was dealt with at the the local office we got to know our case worker quite well and she knew how things were with us.

Wrong thread. Not sure how I managed that.
