i know this will be relative to what you are used to and where you live etc. but i'm currently a bit scared that i won't be in work after my mat leave and we may have to live on dh's wage for a bit. we're in the midlands-ish
Mortgage is nearly £800pm

Yes.

We are doing basically this.

It is very tight.

But we eat exclusively organic food which is our big expense.

It is deffo doable. Its even a bit fun!

I think we should have a skintness/economising board btw, for tips etc. Anyone else agree?

In same boat as I don't want to go back to work after 2nd child! Defo think you will survive especially if you do not have any debt. Unfortunately, our mortgage 760 + 300 for debt and then everything else on top. I have been worrying how we will manage as my money has just stopped. Feel a lot better now I have read this thread and realise a lot of people are managing with less than us.
Knat - have you thought of trying U-switch, they could suggest cheaper suppliers. I have just tried to keep everything as low as possible and getting a 0% credit card etc.

Hi
Yes, you definately can live on a wage of £30k. My husband was a manager for mcdonalds but because of the awful and the fact that we had no family life, he quit and took a less well paid job. We now survive on £23k and we only buy my daughter clothes from Mothercare and Next. Just the other day I bought her a John Rocha coat-you just have to be smart (I used to be a financial adviser). If you want any tips email me on [email protected]
The best way to economise at the moment would probably be through your energy bills-especially as everyone raises their rates at the end of March so try to book a good one now!!!

Sounds a litle tight but perfectly doable. DH is on 21K, mortgage and service charge £650. Tax Credits are £70 per month.

Jesus, swap with me please.

we're on £14000 a year and have mortgage, bills, same as everyone else. Council tax is £145 a month.

Of course you can cut back to survive, was shocked when I seen someone worrying about living on £30000 a year TBH.
