Struggling pubs are allowing drinkers to bring their own sandwiches or order in a takeaway...

Hundreds of desperate landlords see it as a way to attract customers who are trying to save money.

Do you think we can maybe spread this work amongst the indoor play centres and see if they can change their minds about bringing your own food! All the indoor play centres around my area are very strict about bringing your own food into the venue. I always struggle with the amount it costs with 3 children once you have paid for entry and then food on top......

Maybe with the recession taking a hold as it is this trend may spread across other organisations which are not solely dependent on selling food to make a profit.

My local has always allowed you to get a takeaway delivered, it's not unusual to see folks with pizza boxes whilst watching the match or the bar staff yelling 'Dave your Chinese is here' over the Crowds.

Pubs are struggling. Many close every week

Kids play centres maybe aren't struggling so much so don't need to resort to those measures just yet.

If you want your children to play and have picnics at the same time, how about going to the park? Play centres aren't compulsory.

is this a new thing? i didnt think it was, I suppose it depends on the type of pub.

Threelittleducks · 03/07/2012 09:38

Haven't seen it in a pub yet - maybe the smaller ones that don't sell food do it.
Interesting concept. Don't think it'll take off though - a huge part of a lot of pub profit comes from meals (if they do it properly). I imagine play centres are the same.

Just don't go to a play centre at meal times? I take DS either first thing or around 3pm so he's full from lunch but not too stuffed to be able to run around. The ones by mine won't let you have tap water (so that you have to buy bottles) but have no issue with you taking a flask/sippy cup in with you. I do know someone who takes her own food alon as the play centre couldn't accomodate her daughter's dietary needs so said she can bring her own.
